How Anders changed/impacted Garrett complicated is putting it mildly, the first instance was that not only was he one of only two people he had serious feelings for (the other being Fenris) but stayed (he and Fenris had some horrendously bad timing for misunderstanding each other when Fenris panicked after they slept together) and while they butted heads on some things, mainly Garretts neutrality and Justice (or his/it’s effect on Anders), they were legitimately happy in the time between getting together and shortly before the explosion. With Bethany it was another family member/sibling he failed ( by protecting her from the darkspawn), their broken relationship and her alluding to her view that death would’ve been the better option (there’s a dialogue option in Legacy where Hawke can basically ask if death would’ve been better and she refuses/avoids answering) and it changed him by solidifying and growing his not-quite-self-hatred-survivors-guilt adjacent/self-loathing feelings. 30daydachallenge dragon age dragon age 2 da2 garrett hawke m!hawke custom hawke malcolm hawke leandra hawke bethany hawke gamlen amell anders dragon age anders dragon age fenris fenris handers fenhawke m!fenhawke m!handers hawke family my ocīiggest impact for Garrett has to be Anders for several reasons followed somewhat closely by what happened with Bethany (Warden). It’s worth mentioning while Garrett does/did love Fenris he wasn’t able to feel or see Fenris as home, any feeling of home for Garrett died when the Chantry exploded. Then in my aforementioned cabin Garrett briefly lived with Fenris then alone and on the road. Garrett and Leandra then Garrett and Anders in the Hawke estate (with Bodhan, Sandal, and Orana over course). As for where and who I stick close-ish to canon like the Hawke family living near Amaranthine then to Lothering then Garrett, Bethany and Leandra living with Gamlen.

“Home” for Garrett has always been the people he loves, never a specific location which was partially because of growing up knowing if they were ever found out they’d have to leave everything behind.
